About Dr. McKinley

Who is Dr. Wanda R.W. McKinley

Dr. Wanda R. W. McKinley has been a dedicated member of the Dallas community for more than 40 years. Her family relocated from California when her father retired from the Navy, and since then, she has devoted her career to educating families in the insurance and healthcare industries, guided by her belief that knowledge is power.

In November 2013, Dr. McKinley embraced her life’s purpose: to share her journey as a survivor of domestic violence and provide hope to others. Enduring over 24 years of abuse—including childhood molestation, sexual assault, and years of spousal violence—she overcame unimaginable challenges through faith and resilience. Her experiences shaped her calling to help others heal and reclaim their lives.

Founder of We Are Survivors

Dr. McKinley established We Are Survivors, an International 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supporting men, women, and children affected by abuse. The foundation provides referrals for temporary shelter, counseling, and employment training, empowering survivors to transition toward self-sufficiency and stability. Her personal understanding of trauma enables her to connect deeply with those she serves, offering both empathy and professional guidance.

Professional Achievements

Dr. McKinley holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health, and has a Doctorate in Community Care and Counseling, specializing in Traumatology. She is also a best-selling author and the recipient of numerous honors, including:

  • International Humanitarian Award
  • 2016 Advocate of the Year for Domestic Violence
  • Recognition in Who’s Who in Black Dallas (2017–2019)
  • Honorary International Doctorate in Social Advocacy (2020)
  • International Association of Counselors and Therapists

Her work has taken her across the globe as a speaker, with engagements in Finland, and Nigeria.
